The UK Government’s Centre of Expertise in Green Cities and Infrastructure is dedicated to addressing the impacts of climate change and poverty by accelerating the delivery of sustainable cities and resilient infrastructure worldwide.

The Challenge
At the heart of this mission is the Green Cities and Infrastructure Programme (GCIP), the Centre’s flagship initiative. Comprising six interconnected programmes, GCIP draws on the UK’s expertise to promote sustainable urban development—from clean cooking technology to accountable infrastructure investments. The programme operates through both short-term, targeted interventions and long-term, systemic projects across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Six ‘deep offer’ countries—Ghana, Indonesia, Mozambique, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Zambia—receive multi-year strategic support.
The GCIP programme, managed by a PwC-led Alliance with partners including Mott MacDonald, Adam Smith International, Engineers Against Poverty, and MDY Legal, required a digital platform to introduce the initiative, showcase its work, and provide access to critical resources. Partnering with PwC and Engineers Against Poverty, our challenge was to develop a flexible and scalable UI framework that could evolve as the programme expanded.

Our Approach
To ensure adaptability, we took an interactive, user-centered approach, leveraging visuals and prototypes to refine the design collaboratively. Through an iterative process, we developed an interface that is intuitive, modern, and aligned with the programme’s objectives.
Once the design direction was established, we built a content-managed website with key features including:
- A project mapping system to visualise GCIP’s global impact.
- Search and filtering functionality for news and resource discovery.
- A scalable framework designed to accommodate future programme growth.
The result is a dynamic, accessible, and future-ready platform that enhances the Centre of Expertise’s ability to communicate its work, engage stakeholders, and drive forward the global agenda on sustainable cities and resilient infrastructure.
