Making things for the web

Here comes PubliSite v.4.12

We’re due to release an updated version of our PubliSite CMS in February and it includes some exciting new features.

Screen grab of PubliSite template selector

PubliSite v.4.12 will include:

Additional Information for pages

This will allow us to store extra data alongside a page and then use it within that page. Whilst this sounds a little dull it will have all sorts of applications where an editors wants to enter a value once and have it populate the page's code in several places, for example a product price.

Template thumbnails

We'll be adding thumbnails to page templates so that when you create a page you'll have a visual prompt to help choose the right template. This will replace the old drop-down menu.

Thumbnails for resources

You'll be able to add a thumbnail to a document resource like a PDF or Word document. These will be consumed by Smart Lists in the same way as page thumbnails are, so can appear throughout a site or help provide visual search results.

Quick Edit button

This is a login or edit button which can be placed on any page of the site and when clicked will take an editor directly to the edit view for that page. It's ideal for wiki style pages where users are browsing the front-end of a site and see something they want to edit as they'll bypass the page list.

Save and Publish

We're also extending the existing core functionality to include a "Save & Publish" option as well as the current "Save" and "Save as Copy" function.

Page Creator plug-in to categorise pages

We will be able to configure the Page Creator plug-in so that the pages it creates are assigned a category, ideal if you want to use it for News or Blog submissions.

White-labelled e-commerce templates

We're starting to add e-commerce functionality to PubliSite and part of this will include a bunch of ready-made templates providing the building blocks for PubliSite based stores.

White-labelled blog templates

We're often building blogs in PubliSite so to reduce the development time we're compiling a suite of templates so we can roll out a working blog really quickly. This doesn't mean we can't customise it to meet your needs it just gives a head-start.

There are a bunch of other updates and improvements which will be included before we move swiftly onto v.4.13.
