Making things for the web

PubliSite v.4.12 Released

The release of PubliSite 4.12 may not have been accompanied by the razzmatazz of this week’s other big announcement – the Apple iPad – but we’re pretty proud of the latest instalment of our flagship CMS product all the same.

Here are just a few of the new features available in version 4.12:

Additional Page Information

4.12 introduces the ability to store additional info for each page, fully customisable on a site-by-site basis.

That sounds a bit abstract – let’s look at an example:

Imagine a simple e-commerce website, with each product corresponding to an individual page. There could be Additional Info fields for product price, size, colour, etc. This data could be displayed in interesting ways on the page, and provide easy connectivity to payment providers like Paypal and Google Checkout. If the site editor wanted to change a product’s price all they would need to do is update the price info at the top of the page.

Quick Edit Plugin

Some PubliSite sites function more like a wiki, where registered users of the site share the editing duties. The Quick Edit plugin makes it possible to add a simple edit link to a page, which, when clicked, lets the user edit the page without logging in via the backend. This provides a much simpler workflow for wiki-style sites.

Template Thumbnails

Creating new pages can get confusing when there are a large number of templates to choose from. In 4.12 we have introduced the concept of Template Thumbnails. Now the site editors are presented with a visual representation of how the created page will look, making it much easier to choose the correct template than relying on template name alone.

'Save and Publish'

We’re always adding new features and improving functionality based upon feedback from our users. One thing people have been asking for is the ability to immediately publish a page after saving – we hope the new Save and Publish button helps.

There are heaps of other features, improvements and bug fixes in PubliSite 4.12. If you’d like to learn more you can see the full release notes on the PubliSite website.
